The Physicians Committee is using strategy, performance reporting and virtual meetings to enhance programs to help people improve their health by adopting plant-based eating.

ORGANIZATION

Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine

Washington, DC

PCRM is dedicated to saving and improving human and animal lives through plant-based diets and ethical and effective scientific research.

Visionary

Jill Eckart, Managing Director of Nutrition

Challenge

Jill oversees programs to engage the public, medical personnel and government on the benefits of plant-based eating to reduce illness and death from diabetes, cancer, heart disease and other diet-related illnesses. Efforts include education, physicians’ conferences, legislation and government outreach.

PCRM’s budget is about 20 million dollars, which also includes clinical research, a medical clinic and work to end animal use in labs. Comparing that to McDonald’s 1.5 billion dollar advertising budget for the U.S. in 2018 alone makes clear why Jill is always looking for new ways to be more effective and efficient.

Approach

I summarized research and developed recommendations on how to help people maintain plant-based eating. We then created a visual success map to define measures for PCRM’s online veg kickstart program, which reaches hundreds of thousands of people annually.

Results

The work has supported changes to both strategy and measurement. We also worked together to reformulate the staff’s weekly performance reports and her one-on-one meetings to make this process have more impact in less time.

“Caryn has helped me and my team to enhance our strategy and measurement. I especially loved the virtual workshop, which was a powerful way to kick off our year. I highly recommend working with her for support in developing or executing your goals as an organization or individual.”
