Challenge
Culturing meat from cells offers profound benefits for our oceans and marine animals. Alain is committed to transforming the production of fish for food from catch and farming to cell-based agriculture.
He’s advancing the use of lean fish and engaging scientists in a collaborative nonprofit effort. He wants to attract leading thinkers and influentials to understand, get involved with and communicate lean fish as the best opportunity to advance this nascent industry.
The science behind the process, however, can be complex to explain. This is especially true when comparing his approach to methods other organizations are developing.
Approach
Alain originally contacted me to provide graphic recording (live infographics) for a webinar with leading scientists, industry publications and other influentials. He quickly expanded the project to include hand-drawn studio infographics to make the complex information more inviting and engaging.
Results
Alain began the webinar by facilitating a brief discussion of why participants thought cultivating fish from cells was important for the world. The live infographic enabled people to see how responses clustered. Participants reviewed the work at the end of the session as a recap on the value of committing to next steps.
The hand-drawn studio infographics in the presentation were also well-received. The materials gave participants an easy way to discuss key points with colleagues after the event.
Alain was so pleased with the effectiveness of the images that we worked together to modify several for an upcoming article for Cell Press, a top-tier scientific publishing house, for its One Earth publication.
