GRAPHIC FACILITATION
For graphic recording, I may suggest ways to get the most from your graphic recordings, but I focus on producing charts. Your team and/or facilitator retains full responsibility for meeting design and implementation. With graphic facilitation, I can help you use visual thinking at a higher level to achieve better outcomes on what matters to you.
With visual activities your participants interact with visuals. They are more engaged, energized, thoughtful and creative. You may have templates to support structured thinking and make it easy to capture ideas in an attractive, more meaningful format. Your meetings will be more productive … and fun.
Do you already have a trusted facilitator, consultant or staff member to run your meeting? I can support enhanced visual thinking through that person by developing visual activities for the group. That might include preparing templates to capture discussion points or for breakout groups to use.
There are three ways I can work with your meeting leader:
- Help plan the agenda, devise activities, draft instructions and deliver templates or other tools without participating in the meeting
- Help with development, then attend the meeting primarily to graphic record and provide some help for visual activities
- Co-lead the meeting as an active partner in managing the discussion and activities
I can also act as your sole or lead facilitator. That means that on top of the visual work, I’ll be leading some or all of the discussion and activities, adapting the agenda as needed as we go and working with you to ensure your meeting is a success. In addition to extensive facilitation work with organizations, I’ve done a lot of events for cross-field collaboration in the nonprofit sector, where representatives of different groups come together to work on specific issues and actions where they share an interest.
Graphic facilitation can also include a consulting aspect. You may want to draw on my experience and expertise in strategy and marketing to get feedback on the ideas, recommendations and actions your group is developing. As part of structuring a project, we’ll decide whether you want me to add this aspect or whether you prefer I stick to the neutral facilitator role. If I take on both roles, I’ll be clear in the room when shifting providing consulting advice. It is never my place to try to facilitate your group to what I believe to be the best answer.
My graphic facilitation work has included strategic planning, field collaborations, board meetings, program design, developing measures and more.
